No really, they do.
I wanted to check de Bones fandom, so I've tried a "search" by interest in LJ, and WTH!!!??? I've found several comms pro anorexia and bullimics (try itif you don't believe me, just write "Bones" and seach for interest). People is sick, they really are, that's not a game or something to play with and it makes me very sad and angry to read communities descriptions such as:
- "World's Largest Pro Anorexia Site - 24 hr Posting"
- "Remember, nothing tastes as good as thin feels"

Thanks god there were also others about help and support for people suffering these kind of  eatings disorders.
Sorry, but it's really a touchy subject and I just can't stand the idea of some girls (or guys) killing themseves slowly that way.

Oh, sweety. I can't even remember why I have you in my flist -- Harry Potter fandom, maybe? (you're awesome, anyway :) ), but. LJ is composed mainly by a) fandom, b) geeks, c) depressive teenagers with some kind of ed. Almost any non-fandom related interest search will lead you to proana comms. LJ is literally filled with them. I love yoga and cooking -- try searching for those, it's insane. But... well, what can you do. *sigh*

Hahahahaa, I suppose our mutual nexus is HP or any other fandom (even if I can't remember either when I friended you, but anyway, you are awesome too so let's congrat our self in our awesomeness LOL)
My problem with this kind of comm (a part of the obvious reasons already listed) is that I remember a few years ago when LJ directions kind of went all crazy and AWOL and decided to ban lots of fandom communities because they were dangerous and bla bla bla... But ey! It's alright to do anorexia and bulimia campaign.

Wow. Is that even allowed on LJ? I remember the Great Jivejournal Striketrough of 2007 (or, actually, reading about it - I always miss the wank u_u) in which journals with interests like, dunno, "drugs" were erased supposedly because they were supporting it, when maybe the journal belonged to someone who wrote fanfics that featured drugs.

So I tought a journal that's pro-something harmful like an ED wasn't allowed...

I don't think they are allowed either, but I suppose LJ people are not able to check every community , so if they are not reported, they won't get banned.

Yes, it's really sad. I still remember the times when "pro ana" became a fad first, some ... six, seven years ago? I have no idea since when I've been on lj, haha. The really mad part of it was that at least in Germany, teenagers actually were brought to these kinds of internet communities because of newspaper articles about the perils of them.

Hello, I'm a random person piping in. :D

Hello random person piping in! Nice to read you^^
Yes it's really sad and it's an obvious prove of how dangerous Internet could be for kids if they are naive enough to trust everything they read and find, but that's a different discussion^^

You don't remember when you joined LJ, do you? Well, neither do I LOL Let's check it on my profile.. mmm ... let's see... It says 2004-09-18 Five years so far, with my different lj-love/lj-hate phases XD

Well, there are a lot of things that can be really dangerous if you never learnt how to deal with them. Even books that nowadays are considered high literature or reading the news. :3

Well, I had two or three now-deleted journals before this one (no I don't remember how many!), so I can't check. 8D;
I do think it must've been somewhen in 2002 or 2003 ... time flies like a... a butter cake? Sometimes smoothly, and sometimes it hits you square in the face?

God I only now saw the icon. I do not now if I should interpret that as an offer or feel molested by the sheer image or be delighted or all of it.
